The Vision ~ Building Plans

In keeping with the Sanctuary’s environmental philosophies, we have chosen to make our new Center “green.” These buildings, which were saved from demolition, will become the first “LEED” (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified green facility in the county, incorporating everything from low water use plumbing fixtures to recycled construction materials.

The Elephant Sanctuary’s Education Gallery will include:

• EDUCATION GALLERY: These areas will host unique exhibits and education programs about elephants. A multi-media gallery theatre will feature films and live ele-cam viewing.

• VISITOR'S CENTER & GIFT SHOP : Providing a destination to welcome visitors from around the globe who have expressed a desire to visit the town that is home to the nation’s largest elephant sanctuary

• ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES: The Sanctuary will utilize this space for its catalog sales department and shipping/receiving, plus future staffing needs. Lofts above will serve as space for meeting rooms, volunteer training and more.

Plans for the City of Hohenwald Visitor Center next door and the public parking lot in the rear of the building are being funded by the city.
